The Summer Rebellion is almost here! Here in the East of England, we will be rebelling across the region from 28th to 31st August - then joining rebels in London from 1st to 14th September.
Starting with nationally coordinated banner drops all over the region and an oily handed divestment march in Cambridge, we will enter open rebellion against the government’s continued inaction on the climate and ecological emergencies.
Along with rebels around the UK, we will be rebelling around these 4 daily themes:
- 28th August: Fossil fuels
- 29th August: Airports and aviation
- 30th August: Trust the people, gather your community
- 31st August: Money Monday - Permanent bank holiday
From 1st – 14th September, we are invited to join other rebels for socially distant protest in London as Parliament returns.

Taking part in actions
Anyone can take part in XR actions - but please make sure you have received non-violent direct action (NVDA) training, for the safety of yourself and other rebels. You can complete it online by signing up free at Rebellion Academy or do a Zoom training with XR UK (check out their events page). Watch out too for local trainings which are coming soon and will be advertised on our events calendar.
XR East of England’s Summer Rebellion briefing doc contains all the detailed information you need to take part in the Rebellion – including basic details, practical considerations and legal information. Our regional working groups are adding to it all the time so keep checking back!
I want to help! How do I get involved?
Great! We are looking for volunteers to join the working groups covering all aspects of our activity from Media & Messaging and Logistics & Infrastructure to Access & Inclusion and Community-Building. There are many other ways you can help too, such as through on-the-ground roles including steward, facilitator and Police Liaison (training and support provided). Let us know how you can help by signing up on via this form.
How do I donate?
With your kind donations, we can change the world. XR East of England are taking donations for the Summer Rebellion through XR Cambridge. Please mark your donation with the reference 'Summer Rebellion'. Click here to donate.
Will the Rebellion be Covid-safe?
The team coordinating the UK-wide Rebellion checked with all the regions to find out whether we should go ahead and rebel this year, against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic. Rebels across the country felt that the climate and ecological emergencies are so dire, that we have to rebel.
We rebel for life - and we will do all we can to protect rebels. All public actions will be socially distant, with rebels asked to wear masks and keep 2 metres apart at all times – and Covid-security will be built into all action planning. Stewards and other on-the-ground volunteers will be there to remind rebels of Covid safety.
